Assignment Choice #1: Historical Milestones of the AFL
For this assignment, you will explore three key historical events that have impacted the AFL. In a well-developed essay, address the following points:
- Explain how the Haymarket riot, Homestead strike, and Pullman strike helped, as well as hurt, the AFL.
- Discuss some employer tactics used to prevent or minimize union membership growth prior to the passage of the National Labor Relations (Wagner) Act in 1935. Which, if any, of these tactics would be lawful today?
- Based on this week’s readings, discuss the evolution of labor relations and human resources. Discuss how the two interrelate and coexist.
