Discussion

Energy use within military forces has changed over time, because  they are focuses on being less dependent on fossil fuels. The military  is pushing to attempt to test and deploy renewable energy to cut the  need to transport fossil fuels. “A Marine company from California  arrived in the rugged outback of Helmand Province bearing novel  equipment: portable solar panels that fold up into boxes;  energy-conserving lights; solar tent shields that provide shade and  electricity; solar chargers for computers and communications equipment.”  (ELISABETH ROSENTHAL (Links to an external site.)OCT.  4, 2010). The geopolitical scarcity of energy rose conflict in many  areas all over the world. One example that book uses is the impact of  the two gulf wars on oil production, and also the civil war in Libya.  Barack Obama expressed great concern of these matters before he even  took office, he seen there was an issue. He was able to observe that “A  large portion of the 800 million we spend on foreign oil every day goes  to some of the world’s most volatile regimes- Saudi Arabia Nigeria  Venezuela and indirectly at least Iran. It doesn’t matter whether they  are just despotic regimes with nuclear intentions or havens for  madrassas that plant the seeds of terror in young minds they get our  money because we need their oil.” (Bradshaw, M. (2013). The arctic  compares to the previous example, because we see there was conflict over  limited resources, and their leader had to create ways to avoid  conflict. I don’t think the Arctic energy will create more peace, if  anything the resources are limited which will cause more conflict.
