Hello Class! My name is Daniel Grayfer. I’m from sunny Los Angeles, California. I’m currently studying for my Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration. I’ve worked as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) for six years, and currently I work for Disney. My main goal for my education is to be able to prepare myself with a variety of skillsets such as critical and analytical thinking. My expectation for this class is to better understand the human resources aspect of running successful businesses.

The human resource function absolutely needs to be aligned with an organizations strategic plan. This starts with the hiring process which filters individuals to ensure that they fit well within the company culture, and continues on to ensure that the workplace allows for happy employees. Happy employees are productive employees, so ensuring that each individual feels valued and heard is essential for any organizations strategic plans for success. The human resource function needs to work in conjunction with their organizations management to reach and overcome goals.

Within Maersk’s industry, there was a high employee turnover rate. This eventually led to the realization that it was essential to make changes to streamline their hiring and retention practices along with other important employee development programs. Through these changes, and the flexibility shown by their human resources management, the organization was able to create a more welcoming and productive environment for its employees.

My name is Sean. I live in Michigan and I am a personal trainer. I currently run my own training business. My educational goals are to learn as much as I can to apply to my business to maximize it and expand in the future. I expect to learn and better educate myself on how to handle business situations that I have not endured yet to make sure they with be executed in the most professional manner possible.

One major reason why the human resource function should be aligned with an organization’s strategic plan is to be able to set up the companies standards in the beginning hiring process which can lead to a company that will prosper and maintain proper business ethics. Human Resources is the backbone to most successful companies. They are the first step in the process of becoming part of a company, if HR is not aligned with the companies plan this can slowly deteriorate a company from the inside out.

It seems that the current global conditions in Maerkis industry deeply impacted the resource management practices due to the ever changing economy, and the companies conventional ways of doing things since the beginning. Although it is great to want to keep employees with the company forever, as stated in the reading, if you are not pulling your weight, or are not a high performer its time for the company to evaluate the purpose of having you on the team. When a company has such a vast expansion it is hard to be able to control this, due to a lot of variables. Incorporating the People Strategy Sessions helped create a well structured process in order to help prosper the company and make it a well oiled machine.
