One original post

Please create an original post that is ONE solid paragraph, with a clear topic sentence, at least three body sentences, and one or two concluding sentences. Remember that we are practicing paragraph structure as much as we can in this class! Also be sure to look at your own writing for any comma errors. Your weekly discussion grade will now include weight on comma usage, in addition to paragraph structure.

The prompt for the paragraph is: Tell us about the third book you selected and tell us (1) why did you select this book; (2) how is the reading going so far ; and (3) what do you think of the book? Conclude with some general observation about what you expect from this book.

To earn full points, you must reply to four other students, writing at least three-sentence replies (your replies don’t need to be complete paragraphs). Also be sure to proofread your work for typos, grammar, and spelling.

I will upload the book below.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask me.

These are some examples for the original post:

1.Hi , Everyone,

The book that I selected as my third reading text is Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, and it is an exciting and inspiring one so far. The first significant attraction from this book is the author’s creativity in dividing it into themes and sub-themes instead of the traditional chapters. Also, the deviation from the norm showed me that this self-help would provide relatable ideas and concepts that are applicable to our lives and not rules that people must follow to enhance their lives or become successful. While I am still reading the book, I will recommend it become because I believe that readers should not read an entire book to benefit from the insights of the authors since some information might not be useful at that particular stage of the readers’ life. However, the courage and persistence sections contain simple information that every person who struggles with accomplish their goals can utilize to overcome their issues and barriers. In this regard, I agree with the author’s perspective that bravery is what we need to achieve our dreams for work, love, family, and relationships because it gives the strengths to expand our world beyond the small aspects that we perceive and the discipline to remain consistent with the ideas that we have about the quality of life that we want to live. Therefore, the author’s use of personal stories and examples to present complex ideas in the most basic manner is the other reason why I recommend this book for readers who are struggling with identifying the ideas on how to create the lives of their dreams according to their own rules.

2. The third book I read is How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia, by Mohsin Hamid. The story takes place in an unnamed country similar to Hamid’s home country, Pakistan. It details the protagonist’s experience as a poor little boy and his pursuit of wealth and love when he moved to the city and entered the bottled water industry. How an unnamed protagonist from a poor village to a huge city can get rich in the bottled water industry for more than 70 years. The book is modeled after the second-person satire in the form of a business self-help manual. Regardless of the outcome, the model of getting rich shows the economic changes in emerging Asia. In particular, “dirty wealth” is accompanied by intensified urbanization, and a large number of social problems are exposed, including urbanization, collusion between government and business, social violence, environmental destruction, war, etc , Showing the ugly and ridiculous side of the developed economy. This book gives me a lot of emotions. Let me know that when you want to go out and work hard to make money, it doesn’t matter how much you make. The real wealth is taught to you by your experiences on the road and the people you meet. I’ve read half of it now, a very inspiring book, I highly recommend it.

3. The book I selected is titled “Brown Girl Dreaming,” which is an autobiographical narrative of the writer’s childhood authored in verse. I have finished this book quickly on account of I had read it before. The book is authored By Jacqueline Woodson who was born in 1963 within Columbus, Ohio. Just a year following her birth, her parents got separated, and she and her siblings shifted to their maternal home within Greenville, South Carolina. Jacqueline and her siblings are forced to remain with their grandparents for long durations as the mother explores New York, and they are compelled to become members of Jehovah Witness just like their grandmother. Ultimately, Jacqueline’s mother gets a place in New York where they can live, and they all migrate to New York. At New York, Jacqueline and her siblings feel out of place beyond being forced to get used to having another sibling named Roman. With time, Jacqueline becomes used to New York and eventually enjoys going to school. By the conclusion of the novel, Jacqueline embraces the complexity of the world and comes to view herself as an activist and author. I selected the book because I want to learn more about her life as child and her struggles during her childhood. It is one of the best autobiographical narratives I have read so far. Moreover, it is a book that I can categorically state that it is written in verses with great detail to the subject matter. For me , the book is well written and the author reaches her target audience openly.

4. If you disagree with someone’s post, politely do so. Explain why you disagree with facts and details.

5. If you agree with someone, build on the ideas.

6. You can reply to someone who had replied to your original post; this will count as another of your required postings for the assignment.

7. Be kind, respectful, and curious toward other students.

8. The instructor reserves the right to delete any post that is offensive, intolerant, or not sufficiently academic for a college-level course.

Please reapply these four reflection:

1. Jasmine Lee:” I selected Inside Out and Back Again as my third book. The reason I chose this book was because of its cute cover. A girl holds a tree on a hill with one hand and looks at the view of the hill under a pink sky. This book is in the form of a poem, so each page is concise, but it helps me to unfold my imagination. In this book, Ha’s family living in Vietnam goes to the United States for refuge. Her family is discriminated against because of language, race, and culture. She is often teased and ignored by her classmates, and when I read this I felt sorry to her. My heart was so depressed when Ha missed the papaya tree or doll she left in Vietnam and her mother sang Vietnamese songs. The story of the year is colorfully explained from the point of view of Ha. I hope my heart will heal by reading this book as a migrant. “

3. Sandeep Chahal :” The third book I have selected from the reading list is The Best We Could Do by Thi Bui. In the past class discussions, I heard many good things about this book and it really drew me to read it. The Best We Could Do is a graphic memoir, which makes it even more interesting to read. I personally like reading graphic memoirs more because I’m not much of a reader, so I thought this book was the perfect pick for me. I have just started reading this book, and I find the story very fascinating. This book takes us into Thi’s experience of being a parent for the first time, and it also takes a look back into her family’s history in Vietnam and after the Vietnam war as immigrants to the U.S. As Thi adjusts to becoming a first- time mother, she starts discovering what it means to be a parent, like the endless sacrifices. After reading several pages of the book, I found myself very interested to read this story. I thought this book has a very emotional and touching story that many others can relate to or would love to read about. I can’t wait to finish the book and see what the rest of the novel holds.

example of reflection :

Hi Sandeep, I’m glad that you were finally able to read this memoir! I remember that this book was able to deliver me right to the events that she helped paint with her words and images and I can see that her work has also done the same for you. I really do believe that Bui’s utilization of different methods of expression to communicate to her readers highlights the book’s deeper meaning. I can’t wait for you to finish this book and see how the book ends, as it will definitely come full circle.

4. Ping Hsuan Wang:”

“The third book I chose from the list is There There, written by Tommy Orange. The story takes place in Oakland, California, with twelve characters who are Native American descent. This book contains multiple perspectives and makes people question a lot of things about the United States and the way people look at others. The book is centered around Native American experience but, at the same time, brought up the awareness for anyone who grows up as a descendent from a culture. By reading through the book, I get to see how the characters figure out how and why they consider themselves to be Native American and the things that they take pride in. I also love to see how these characters found their value over time. I have not finished the book yet; however, by far, I am enjoying reading this book! “

Hi Ping, I have also read the book There There and I have enjoyed this book so much! Thank you for sharing your views on the book and what the story is all about. 5. Ruby Warya:”The 3rd and final book I have decided to read is There There by Tommy Orange. The reason I selected this book was that I found the cover of the book to be fascinating. So far, the reading is going amazing. There are twelve characters who are Native American descents. I have read half of the book and it’s about a guy named Dene Oxendene, who is the main character of this book and is hoping to honor his recently deceased uncle’s legacy by recreating a film on stories about Native Americans. Tony Loneman, is a twenty-one-year-old man who has a mark on his face from alcohol syndrome which leads to him involving in a robbery. Maxine is Tony’s guardian who lives, loves, and takes care of him. He sells drugs for Octavio, who comes up with the plan to rob the Big Oakland Powwow. Overall, I am enjoying this book!”
