If you worked for VISIONS/Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired and you were about to do a huge marketing campaign targeted towards 20th-25th Street between Lexington Avenue and 7th Avenue (fundraising letters, bus shelter ads, local radio, selecting honorees for a fundraising dinner, holding a community meeting at a local doctor’s office, contacting local businesses, etc) ….what demographic information would you like to know about the people who live and work in the area? How would you use the information you collect? What demographic information would you want to know about the clients you serve? How would you use that information in marketing? Before this course, did you believe that nonprofits actually competed against each other (although they often still cooperate on certain things)?

For marketing campaign first of all there is need to identify following information about the locality –

Age range – There is need to identify that market consist primarily of young people, working class or aged people.

Income of people – There is needed to identify if people are rich in the locality, middle class or lower class.

Family size – Are there lots of singles, nuclear families or joint families in the selected market area.

Education – Are there more educated people, uneducated or illiterate people in the society.

Information collected will be useful in following ways –

Focus: With the data collected about family size we can now use the techniques accordingly for the parents or for the children.

Fund raising – When we know about the income of people we can divide the market into three categories – rich, middle and poor, and can approach the market in similar way for fund raising as we will approach richer class more for donations.

Method of communication – Information collected can help to choose method of communication. Like if more people are educated and can access digital media then that can be preferred.

We would want following about the clients we serve-

Disability – We will analyse that how many people are partially sighted, have low vision and totally blind

Additional disabilities – Does people also have any other kind of disabilities along with visual blindness.

Information collected will be useful in following ways –

Rehab programs – It helps to know that how many people just only require rehab programmes or how many requires proper treatment.

Multiple disability programs – If people are having other disabilities then accordingly multiple disability programs should be promoted.

Before this course, did you believe that nonprofits actually competed against each other (although they often still cooperate on certain things)?

No Before this course it is generally believed that non profits actually work for charity and good cause. There is no completion among them and they work for their own reasons.
