Consider these questions with regards to the Middle East in the Post-WWI world:

World War I was a long and grueling war. Millions of men, women and children perished because of this war. This global war was large because of its geographical reach and amount of destruction. Civilian casualties were seen in the Civil War in the United States but not on this scale. In four years time, 15- 18 million civilians and soldiers were killed. Another legacy was the Russian Revolution that occurred in February, 1917 and again in October, 1917. The February revolution was a democratic revolution that wanted to create a social democracy. Socialism and capitalism were both present with the possibility of the Czar of Russia remaining on the throne. The October revolution in 1917 was more radical. This communist revolution was known as The Bolshevik Revolution which created The Soviet Union. Between 1917 and 1922, a Civil War occurred when The Soviet Union was established and this resulted in 8-12 million casualties. The Easter uprising of 1916 was another legacy of World War I. Irish Nationalist Forces went up against unionists. This war was brief but no less violent between Irish Republicans and Irish Nationalists. This resulted in about 1400 casualties and numerous people wounded and captured. Protestant police are accused of being predatory toward Irish Catholics. Disease, such as The Spanish Flu took the lives of many between 1918 and 1920. The Spanish Flu resulted in 50-100 million deaths globally and this number added to the number of casualties since 1914 totaled 1.8 billion deaths since the beginning of World War I. Daily Savings Time was another legacy carried over from World War I. This is something we still practice today.
