School-Family Partnership Plan

Describe how the principles (discussed below) are demonstrated (or could be demonstrated) in your classroom (or in the classroom of one of the schools in which you have observed during your pre-practicum experiences).

Partnerships with families are imperative to the success of children with disabilities. Turnbull et al. (2013, p. 88-101) discuss seven principles that are crucial in building successful partnerships with culturally, ethnically, and linguistically diverse families of students with disabilities. The principles are: (a) communication, (b) professional competence, (c) respect, (d) commitment, (e) equality, (f) advocacy, (g) and trust.

Partnership paper can be completed in one of two ways.

A Describe how the principles are addressed in either your school or classroom. If you don’t think one or more of the principles are adequately addressed, then provide suggestions for future changes.

B. Develop your own classroom plan that addresses the seven principles and the required components (outlined below).

C. Either way, include at least two strategies or suggestions that are NOT already occurring in your school and provide at least one example as an appendix
