Exam 2 (100 Points): Chapters 9 Gender Inequality & 10 Race, Ethnicity and Racism
Explain the significance of the social construction of gender and race, including the creation of dominant/subordinate group relations, and key consequences of the social construction of gender and race for dominate group members (men and Caucasians) and subordinate group members (women, and racial/ethnic minority groups).
The assignment should be two (2) typed pages, Times New Roman, 12-point font, with one-inch margins, and double-spaced. Please proofread your paper carefully and use spell check to minimize errors related to grammar, spelling, and punctuation. You do not need to include in-text citations in your exam paper or a bibliography.
Literature Review (100 Points)
The purpose of the assignment is for you to locate one (1) scholarly journal article on gender or racial inequality, read the article, and utilize information contained in the journal article to write your literature review.
The literature review should include the following information.
1. Identification of the main subject matter of the scholarly journal source.
2. Specification of the major themes covered in the journal article.
3. The author’s perspective in relation to the subject matter of the scholarly journal article or the information that the author provides on the subject matter of the journal article.
4. Conclusions drawn by the author in relation to the subject matter of the journal source.
5. Your thoughts about the subject matter of the scholarly journal article, including in relation to Sociology.

Locating Scholarly Journal Sources
Google Scholar: Google (Google Scholar) or https://scholar.google.com
Put your topic in the search box and make sure that articles is selected below the search box.
Review the results that you get and identify articles that may be of interest to you.
Check the right margin of the results page to see if there is a link to access the full text article.
If not, then you can Google the title of the Journal Article and see if you can access the full-text version of the article that way. You can also search Academic Search Premier for the Journal Article (See Below).

Select Library from the list on the left hand side of the page.
Look for Books, Articles and More on the right side of the page.
Select Databases
On the next page look for Databases Alphabetically Listed by Title and QCC Databases by Title.
Select Academic Search Premier under QCC Databases by Title.
You will need your QCC Student ID with your library barcode information to access the Academic Search Premier page. Follow the instructions and the last four digits of your library barcode number may be your password.
Once you get to the Academic Search Premier page.
Put your topic in the search box.
Select full-text, Academic Journals, Scholarly Peer-Reviewed, and the language of choice.
Submit your search.
Review the results and identify journal articles of interest.
Look for the full-text PDF symbol to access the full-text journal article.

 

 

In-text Citations and Bibliography

Look for and select APA Formatting and Style Guide Purdue Writing Lab.
Look for General Format on the left side of the page.
Select in-text citations, the basics to review the base format for in-text citations.
The purpose of in-text citations is to cite or give credit to the author(s) of the source from which you obtain information in writing your literature review. After putting information from a source in your paper, add the in-text citation for the source.
Example in-text citation for your journal article source.
(Cannon, 2018), where Cannon is the last name of the author of the source and 2018 is the year of publication.
Example of in-text citation for a source with more than one author.
(Thompson and Bridges, 2016), where Thompson and Bridges are the last names of the authors and 2016 is the year of publication.
Bibliography (sometimes called Reference Page or Works Cited Page)
Your bibliography page will be a separate page at the end of your paper and will include the full bibliographic citation for the scholarly journal source from which you obtained information for your literature review, and which will be reflected by the in-text citations throughout your paper. For the source that you cite within your paper, you should include the full bibliographic citation in your bibliography.
