In short, for those of you who choose APA, you are required to write an Abstract (although you do not have to do one in this class). Nevertheless, I feel it is important for you to note the difference between an Abstract and an Introduction. So, an Abstract is a short paragraph that explains the purpose of your paper, explains any arguments or claims made in the paper, and details any research methods used and any evidence that supports the claims made in the paper. The Introduction, introduces your reader to your topic. It is the first paragraph of the essay (5-6 sentences) and includes the thesis statement.
